Project Work: »Modelling of laser-assisted drying for lithium-ion battery electrodes«

In the group »Laser System Technology«, we design and construct various prototype machines for laser-based and laser-assisted processes.

 

Within the scope of your work, you will investigate the laser-assisted drying processes for lithium-ion battery (LIB) electrode foil. A model will be constructed to describe the laser-assisted drying process, in which the laser radiation as well as hot air flows are used to remove the solvent of the electrode coating. The laser-assisted drying process will then be characterized by several key performance indicators, e.g. drying rate and energy consumption, and a comparison with state-of-the-art convection drying processes will be conducted. Finally, a suggestion about hybrid drying system should be derived from the analysis results.

 

Notice: The project work is also possible as a Bachelor or Master thesis.

 

What you will do

  • Parameter study based on the process model
  • Establishing suggestions about the hybrid drying system

 

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying mechanical engineering, computer science, CES or a comparable subject
  • Experience in modelling heat- and mass transfer problem is advantageous
  • Experience in MATLAB or Python (NumPy, SciPy) is required
  • A high degree of initiative, independence and motivation
  • Good language skills in English
