Research Associate in the field of laser-based surface functionalization

In the Laser Material Deposition (LMD) department, we have been developing sustainable and competitive solutions in the fields of coating, heat treatment, repair and additive manufacturing with 14 scientists and in cooperation with renowned companies for more than 35 years. We provide our partners with comprehensive support, from brainstorming and consulting to implementation in industrial production. The most advanced production systems, measurement technologies and equipment enable us to research and implement a wide range of applications, e.g. in the automotive, energy, aerospace and mechanical engineering sectors.

 

In the “Coating and Heat Treatment” group in the LMD department, we are looking for a research assistant to join our dynamic team in the field of extreme high-speed laser material deposition (EHLA). The focus of the work is the research, development and technical implementation of innovative laser-based coating technologies and sustainable manufacturing processes to solve current challenges in the industrial environment.

 

Was Du bei uns tust

  • Your tasks will include industry-related process development and validation for powder-based laser material deposition and EHLA (https://s.fhg.de/EHLA)
  • You will be responsible for the development and validation of metallic materials for wear and corrosion protection, tribological coating systems and other functional surfaces
  • You will supervise and work on the acquisition of national and international industrial and research projects as well as manage and execute projects with a technical/scientific focus
  • You design the application-adapted system technology for laser material deposition processes and are also responsible for their development and supervision
  • In addition, you will present research results to clients, at international conferences, trade fairs and symposia and supervise student theses and student assistants

 

Was Du mitbringst

  • Successfully completed university degree (TH / TU / U) in the field of industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering or a comparable field of study
  • You have enthusiasm for applied research, an interest in innovative production technologies and the desire to pursue a PhD in this field
  • Furthermore, you have a strong analytical mindset, an independent and responsible way of working and strong communication skills, creativity and team spirit are among your strengths
  • You have very good written and spoken German and English skills
  • It is an advantage if you have already gained experience in laser material processing and laser system technology as well as the welding of metallic materials
