Research assistant in the field of quantum computing

The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology and laser processes.

 

The department "Data Science and Metrology" pursues the increase of productivity, efficiency and quality of laser-based manufacturing through digital solutions, customized laser beam sources, optical systems and modern equipment technology. The Computational Methods group focuses on the design, modeling and simulation of laser beam sources, laser systems and processes using classical multiphysics numerical simulations and modern approaches such as artificial intelligence and quantum algorithms.

 

To strengthen the team, we are looking for a scientific employee in the field of quantum computing. The main task is the development of quantum algorithms for modeling and optimizing laser beam sources and processes in laser material processing, with a focus on calculating the optical properties of quantum films in semiconductor lasers.

 

What you will do

  • You work independently on publicly funded projects with industry participation in the field of quantum computing for photonics
  • You support the acquisition of publicly funded projects and bilateral industrial projects
  • You will be responsible for presenting the results to customers and at national and international conferences
  • You will also create articles for external presentation and supervise scientific theses

 

 

What you bring to the table

  • You have a university degree in physics, mathematics, computer science or a comparable course of study and are aiming for a doctorate
  • You have very good knowledge in the field of quantum mechanics
  • You are willing to carry out practical research projects in close coordination with our project partners in a committed and independent manner
  • Experience in programming, quantum computing and numerics is advantageous, but not essential
  • Very good German and English skills round off your profile

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
