Student assistant (f/m/d) for the development of high-power ultrashort plus lasers

The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is a leading centre for contract research and development in the field of laser technology.

 

The "Ultrashort Pulse Lasers" group develops high-power ultrashort pulse beam sources (pulse duration < 1 ps) with medium power levels up to the kW range, as well as the simulation and measurement tools required for this. The spectrum of the projects worked on ranges from concept and prototype development for industrial laser manufacturers to publicly funded projects in the field of basic research, for example in the generation of EUV radiation through non-linear frequency conversion.

 

What you will do

  • Participation in the planning, design, execution and evaluation of experiments, as well as the documentation of the results
  • Research for the procurement of optical components and laboratory equipment
  • Preparing laser components for use in the clean room and assembling the components

 

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying physics, mechanical engineering or a related degree programme and have successfully completed your studies to date
  • You are characterised by enthusiasm and an independent way of working
  • A broad technical interest and manual dexterity are helpful
  • Initial experience in the laboratory with optical setups and knowledge of programming or design are advantageous, but not essential

Remuneration according to Research assistant pay (dependent on qualifications).
The weekly working hours are from 12 to 20 hours and will be agreed individually during the interview.
The position is initially limited to 12 months, but we are looking for a longer-term position to accompany your studies.
