Thesis Laser-based thin-film technology as an enabler for the next generation of fuel cells
In cooperation with the Chair for Laser Technology at RWTH TOS, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology, is offering the opportunity to write a thesis in the Surface Technology and Shape Ablation department. In the context of climate change and the energy transition, there is growing interest in the use of hydrogen as an energy carrier. The entire chain from production, storage and distribution to conversion back into useful energy using various technologies is crucial for its use. High-temperature fuel cells have the highest efficiency of all available fuel cells. In order to eliminate existing restrictions of this technology, e.g. with regard to cycle stability and the still high production costs, the Fraunhofer ILT is working together with partners from industry and research on a new type of cell concept based on thin films crystallized by means of laser radiation.
