Mandatory internship in the field of machining

For over 35 years, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology in Berlin has stood for excellence in production science. We are dedicated to combining science and practice in the field of industrial production and offer application-oriented system solutions for the entire range of industrial tasks - from product development to the production process, the maintenance of capital goods and the recycling of products through to the design and management of factory operations.

 

In the Manufacturing Technologies department, which is part of the Production Systems division, we work on the development, provision and adaptation of production and manufacturing technologies for the manufacture of innovative products. We develop new machines and processing strategies on behalf of customers, optimize existing production systems and implement future-oriented tool concepts. Our core areas of expertise are machining technology, fine machining, cleaning and blasting processes, additive manufacturing as well as production and machine measurement technology.

 

What you will do

 

As part of an internship, we offer you the opportunity to deepen your interest and knowledge in the field of machining. You will learn how to use CNC machine tools and manufacture project-specific/high-precision components. In addition to working with CAD/CAM software, you will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with optical and tactile measuring technology. Building on these fundamentals, the acquired knowledge will be further deepened directly in research and development projects from basic research as well as industrial applications.

 

What you bring to the table

 

  • Studies in mechanical engineering or a related field of study
  • Motivation, ability to work in a team and commitment
  • Independent, prudent and goal-oriented way of working
  • Advanced knowledge of design engineering, CAD/CAM and manufacturing technology
  • Training in a technical field advantageous
  • Experience in scientific writing and good German language skills

The weekly working time is 39 hours (full-time).

Remuneration is based on the federal guidelines for internship remuneration.

The duration of the thesis depends on the requirements of your university.
