The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) is a world-leading research institute in the field of packaging and interconnection technology for microelectronic systems. The industries represented by our customer base are as diverse as the possible applications of electronics.

We are looking for five motivated researchers to join an interdisciplinary team focused on strengthening the scientific landscape of the institute. You will be part of an innovative project in the field of High Performance Computing, with an emphasis on scientific work rather than client project work. All five team members will start together and collaborate closely to achieve significant advancements in research.

Are you interested in topics such as chiplet-based heterointegration, system simulation & design (System-Technology-Co-Optimization: STCO), AI-driven data analysis and process assessment, packaging-specific PDKs & ADKs, or inline testing & fault analysis (3D)? If so, you are in the right place!

What you will do

  • Conduct research projects that qualify either for a PhD (for Master's graduates) or as a Post-Doc (for those already holding a PhD)
  • Develop and implement new methods for data analysis and process assessment
  • Collaborate closely in an agile research team dedicated to enhancing the institute
  • Participate in regular meetings and workshops to promote professional exchange

What you bring to the table

  • Completed university degree (Master or equivalent) in a relevant field (for PhD positions) or already holding a PhD (for Post-Doc positions)
  • Passion for High Performance Computing and research
  • Team spirit and readiness to collaboratively address challenging scientific issues
  • Initial experience with Artificial Intelligence or data-driven methods is a plus, but not mandatory

What you can expect

  • A creative and supportive work environment where you can contribute your ideas
  • The opportunity to independently tackle scientific topics while being mentored by experienced professionals
  • Additional workshops and training to further develop your skills
  • A coperate culture characterized by collegiality
  • Work-life balance through flexible working hours, mobile working options, and various support services to help you balance your personal and professional life
  • 30 days of vacation, annual bonus payment in accordance with TVöD Bund (German federal civil service collective agreement), and company pension plan (VBL)
  • Discounted company or Germany ticket from BVG
  • Good public transport connections (S1, S2, S25, S26, U6, U8) and free parking spaces

This position is initially limited to two years. An extension is explicitly desired. The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
