Scientist 6G PHY Standardization
Future. Discover. Together. Innovations for the digital society of tomorrow are the focus of research and development work at the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, HHI. The Fraunhofer HHI is a world leader in research into mobile and optical communication networks and systems as well as the coding of video signals and data processing. The Department of Wireless Communications and Networks is recruiting research engineers in the area of wireless system design for 6G. The Group Technologies and Standards focuses on early investigation of emerging wireless technology components and their impact on standardization. Become a part of our team and join us on our journey of research and innovation!
What you will do
Your tasks will include the design and development of wireless communication systems and protocols. Your work includes analysis of standard contributions, observation of technology trends, identification of improvements, and development of technical solutions matching to the scope of 3GPP. You will attend standardization meetings and present related proposals in the 3GPP working groups of RAN. The areas of interest can include an evolution of MIMO-technologies with increased antenna ports and antenna elements, operating in different frequency ranges. To achieve this, design targets include reducing signalling overhead, minimizing energy consumption, improving data rates, and implementing MIMO technology within the scope of an AI-ML air interface. Further topics of relevance can include New frequency ranges discussed for 6G and related protocol signaling aspects Cell-free design for distributed MIMO systems Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) Non-terrestrial networks (NTN) Support of IoT devices across generations including IIoT and A-IoT The scientific work offers the possibility of a doctorate.
What you bring to the table
Bachelors, Masters, or a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field > 1 years of related experience or equivalent experience in wireless communications > 1 years of experience working with 5G or 6G wireless Strong background in wireless communication with emphasis on physical layer communication protocols, machine learning and LTE/5G procedures Excellent analytical understanding and research skills Creative thinking and interest in new technologies Self-motivated, proactive, you feel competent and confident in international environments Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English Preferred qualifications: > 2 years of wireless standardization experience in 3GPP, e.g., RAN1 or RAN2 Experience in digital signal processing in wireless communication systems Experience with technologies in vertical industries
