Scientist WiFi8 Standardization
Future. Discover. Together. Innovations for the digital society of tomorrow are the focus of research and development work at the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, HHI. The Fraunhofer HHI is a world leader in research into mobile and optical communication networks and systems as well as the coding of video signals and data processing. The Department of Wireless Communications and Networks is recruiting research engineers in the field of wireless system design for WiFi8. Future wireless will support new services and use cases beyond traditional communication such as integrated sensing and communication, XR/immersive communication and AI-based services. Key design objectives for WiFi8 include increased speed, enhanced efficiency, lower latency, and extended range.
What you will do
Your tasks will include the design and development of wireless communication systems and protocols. Your work includes analysis of standard contributions, observation of technology trends, identification of improvements, and development of technical solutions matching to the scope of IEEE. You will attend standardization meetings and present related proposals in the selected IEEE working groups. The areas of interest can include mobility enhancements, extended sensing and reporting, integration of AI-ML, streamlining of network functions and interactions, interfaces and protocols, extending MIMO technologies using beamforming, as well as operation in higher frequency ranges. Further topics of relevance can include Wider bandwidth with operation in the 6GHz band or above Optimized MU-MIMO technology and cooperative access points in distributed MIMO systems Cell-free design for distributed MIMO systems Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) The scientific work offers the possibility of a doctorate.
