Senior Scientist in Translational Immunology (m/f/d)

The Fraunhofer Institute for translational medicine and pharmacology ITMP, location Berlin Mitte, focuses on the development of new and personalised treatment strategies for patients with rheumatic diseases. This new Fraunhofer location, being developed in cooperation with the Charité- Universitätmedizin Berlin, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with experience in translational immunology with immediate effect.

 

What you will do

Our clinic conducts a number of trials, including Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs) in order to develop novel treatment modalities for rheumatic diseases. This includes the use of CAR T cells and therapeutic antibodies to reset the immune system. It will be your task to investigate the effect on the immune system during and after treatment in order to gain insights into the mechanism, efficacy and durability of the approach. For this, you will perform a number of advanced approaches including spectral flow cytometry, single cell sequencing and spatial analysis of tissue biopsies. You will be responsible for:

  • experimental design, writing of SOPs and costing of the required scientific analyses
  • the coordination of sample collection and processing between the clinic and the technicians in the lab
  • Performance of advanced analysis techniques, including flow cytometry, cell sorting, single cell sequencing, high-parameter biomarker analysis, imaging techniques.
  • data analysis

In addition to your work on the trials, you will be part of the academic research lab and assist basic research, including the guidance of PhD student projects.

 

What you bring to the table

  • A PhD in the field of biology/natural sciences with advanced experience in lymphocyte immunology
  • Experience with translational research
  • Experience with complex bioinformatic data analysis including the use of R and Python.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in both German and English
  • Motivation and an ability to work in a team
  • Adaptability, flexibility and creativity

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is initially limited until 31 December 2025 and is also available on a part-time basis.
