Student Assistant AI & Machine Learning

The Interactive & Cognitive Systems group within the Vision & Imaging Technologies (VIT) department is on the lookout for student assistant with a strong focus on AI and machine learning for practical implementation. 
Our  group studies natural and designs artificial cognitive systems, researches their relationships and develops methods that enable interactions between them. The group's research is at the interface between cognitive science, machine learning and human-machine interaction. The applications of the developed solutions extend over a wide field of multimedia technology and augmented reality, through medicine to agriculture and industrial production.

What you will do

  • Engage in the research, and test the latest machine learning algorithms
  • Analysing, preprocessing, and visualizing different data types (texts, images,etc.)
  • Review latest literature and data
  • Take part in the creation and management of datasets
  • Orchestration and documentation of experiments
  • Contribute to the development of human-centered AI solutions and systems

 

What you bring to the table

  • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, pushing the boundaries in remote sensing, CV, ML, and neuroscience
  • Enrolled in a master's programme of computer science, mathematics, statistics, computational linguistics, physics, electrical engineering, media computer science or similar with good grades
  • Research interest in one or more of the following: Reinforcement Learning for LLM's and AI agents, Multi-modal Learning, Self-supervised Learning, Computer Vision
  • Proficiency in programming languages and tools relevant to data science and AI, with strong skills in Python and knowledge of NumPy, OpenCV, Pandas, SQL, Docker, git, etc.
  • PyTorch skills: experience in training machine learning models with one or more GPUs; ability to work with pre-existing codebases and get a training run going
  • A versatile programming background, including practical AI methodologies and beyond
  • High degree of proficiency in spoken and written English

The position is initially limited to 1 year. An extension is explicitly desired.

 

The monthly working time is 80 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
