Student Assistant Calibration of USRPs hardware platforms

The Wireless Communications and Networks department of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute participates in the development of new technologies for the next generation wireless communication systems. The Signal and Information Processing (SIP) group participates in national and international research projects, addressing relevant topics in the fields of signal processing for mobile communications and radar systems. We are looking for a student assistant to participate in calibration and measurement tasks involving Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with advanced Software-Defined Radio (SDR) devices, RF measurements with high-end measurement instruments. For highly motivated students, this work can be extended to include development of code for SDR-based channel measurements. Be a part of our team and come on a journey of research and innovation!

 

What you will do

  • Develop Python scripts for control of USRPs and other measurement instruments

  • Perform calibration of USRP devices to ensure accurate control over power levels

  • Perform antenna reflection loss measurements using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)

  • Systematically document the results and create a report (documentation)

  • [Conditional] Develop code for channel measurements and student experiments with USRPs

 

What you bring to the table

  • Full-time student status at a German university with good grades, in the fields of electrical engineering, communications engineering, or similar

  • Located in Berlin

  • Interest in working with SDR hardware and RF measurement instruments

  • Excellent programing skills and Python proficiency

 

Furthermore, desirable are:

  • Experience working with signal generator/analyzer, spectrum analyzer and VNA

  • Experience working with USRPs

  • Coding skills in C/C++

The position is initially limited to 1 year. An extension is explicitly desired.

 

The monthly working time is 80 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
