Student Assistent Digital Signal Processing for High-Speed Signal Generation

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

Future. Discover. Together.

As a research institution based in Berlin, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute creates innovations for the digital society of the future and is a global leader in the field of optical data transmission. We offer the coveted combination of a scientific environment and insights into an industry-oriented way of working.

In the area of high-speed signal generation, we are researching novel concepts for generating analog signals with bandwidths beyond 100 GHz, in order to keep up with the rapidly increasing global data traffic in the future. This challenging task requires not only novel hardware, but also new approaches in digital signal processing and behavioral modeling of the systems. To support the work on these topics, we are looking for a student employee with the following profile. Be a part of our team and come on a journey of research and innovation!

What you will do

  • Implementation of algorithms for signal processing using Matlab and Python
  • System-level behavioral modeling of components for ultra-broadband signal generation in Matlab and Python
  • Simulative and experimental evaluation of the algorithms and comparison with conventional processing methods

What you bring to the table

  • Full-time student at a university in Berlin, preferably in the field of electrical or computer engineering, mathematics, physics
  • Profound knowledge in the field of digital signal processing
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge regarding message transmission systems
  • Extensive experience with Python, Matlab and other programming languages
  • Good communication skills (German and English)
  • Proactive and self-reliant working style

What you can expect

  • Interesting challenges in a scientific and industrially shaped field
  • Flexible working hours
  • Opportunities to write a master`s or bachelor`s thesis
  • Scope margin for the tasks to be implemented

The position is initially limited to 12 months. An extension is explicitly desired.

The monthly working time is 80 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
