Student assistant (m/f/d/) in the divsion Joining and Coating Technology

For over 35 years, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology in Berlin has stood for excellence in production science. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between science and practice in the field of industrial production and offer application-oriented system solutions for the entire spectrum of industrial tasks – from product development to the production process, maintenance of capital goods, and recycling of products to the design and management of factory operations.
 
In the field of joining and coating technology, we are working on the further development of modern welding processes such as multi-wire submerged arc welding (SAW) and laser-hybrid welding. These processes are characterized by high efficiency, process speed, and quality.

 

What you will do

 

  • Support for research activities in the field of welding technology and process monitoring
  • Application and maintenance of measurement technology and sensors (electrical, acoustic, thermal)
  • Participation in data analysis and development of AI-based evaluation methods (e.g., in Python, MATLAB)
  • Planning and preparation of experiments
  • Support for conducting experiments in the laboratory 

 

What you bring to the table

 

  • Ongoing studies in the field of engineering sciences, physics, materials science, or a comparable discipline
  • Interest in welding processes and manufacturing technologies
  • Optional: Experience with MATLAB/Python or measurement and control technology
  • Structured, independent working style and team player
  • Very good German and English language skills, both written and spoken

The remuneration is based on the overall company agreement for the employment of auxiliary staff.
The position is initially limited to one year.
The monthly working hours are negotiable between 40 or 80 hours.
