Student assignments on metal 3D printing
The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM is one of Europe's most important independent research institutes in the fields of »shaping and functional materials« as well as »adhesive bonding technology and surfaces«. The focus is on research and development work with the aim of providing our customers with reliable and application-oriented solutions. Products and technologies are primarily aimed at sectors that are particularly important for future viability: aviation, automotive, energy technology, maritime technologies, medical technology and life sciences. Around 700 highly qualified employees work together on specific projects and topics to achieve this task. The department Adhesion and Interfaces at Fraunhofer IFAM in Bremen, Germany, is looking for student support on various topics in the context of additive manufacturing (AM) and/or surface texture characterisation. Please state in your application whether you are applying for an internship, a thesis or a student assistant position. AVAILABLE ASSIGNMENTS:
Design and manufacturing of a macroscopic demonstrator using stereolithography (SLA) to visualise typical microscopic surface features and properties resulting from metal powder bed fusion (PBF)
Investigation of image-based approaches to the characterisation of near-surface nitriding heat treatment effects on metal components
Investigation of influence of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) processing parameters (contour scan) on microstructural properties and resulting crack initiation behaviour under cyclic loading for AlSi7Mg0.6 material
Adaption of existing fatigue prediction models using alternative standard and non-standard texture parameters for as-built laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) surfaces, including comparison with testing results for AlSi7Mg0.6 material
