Speculative Application Bremerhaven: Internship, Student Assistantship with/without Thesis

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 800 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.0 billion euros.

Who we are ...
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as over 100 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at nine sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.

Do you want to get a taste of practical work during your studies? Great, as we are always looking for new talents!

What you will do

Our fields of research are very diverse ...
At our site in Bremerhaven, we focus on testing and validating of components of wind turbines and for hydrogen production, field measurements on turbines or offshore, and logistical issues and site analysis covering all aspects related to the installation of new wind farms. We are always looking for active support, which offers you insights into the latest research and development projects. Are you wondering what that would look like? For example, you can apply your knowledge and skills in hydrogen technology by supporting the electrochemical investigations of electrolysis and fuel cell components. Would you rather work on one of our test benches for large components for wind turbines? At the nacelle test bench, you can work on grid integration, while our rotor blade test bench offers exciting challenges in the further development of test and measurement methods. Perhaps you are more interested in software development? Or maybe you enjoy modeling? We are still the right place to be with our work on creating digital twins of components and test rigs, and due to our software that supports the logistical planning of offshore wind farm installations. You can also get out of the lab and test the methods you have developed in the real world by assisting with measurement campaigns on wind turbines in the field or by preparing and following up on wind measurement campaigns with our lidar buoy. Get actively involved; we are keen to hear your ideas! As an international oriented IWES-team, we highly appreciate an open exchange, whether this be in German or English. Respectful cooperation is also very important to us.

What you bring to the table

What is your background?
Depending on the area of employment, a different field of study can be suitable for joining us. If you are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Engineering or Natural Sciences, that is a particularly good match for our research fields. Have you already come into contact with wind or hydrogen technologies as part of your studies? Perhaps you also had the opportunity to deepen your theoretical knowledge through internships or part-time jobs? Do you want to expand your knowledge here and contribute your ideas? Then we look forward to meeting you.

What you can expect

What we can offer you ...

We offer various opportunities to join us as a student. Whether it is an internship, where you gain a comprehensive insight into the areas of work, or the role of a student assistant, which is easy to combine with your studies. Are you looking for an exciting topic for your thesis and do you want to delve deeply into a topic scientifically? Together, we will find the right path for you! We know that studying can also be very demanding and requires a certain level of flexibility. That is no problem here, as – in agreement with your colleagues – you can decide flexibly what days and hours to work. Depending on the job, temporarily you can even work remotely as a student assistant.
