Speculative application: Internship / Student Assistantship with Thesis (optional)

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 2.9 billion euros.

Who we are ...
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as around 150 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at seven sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.

What you will do

Our fields of research are very diverse ...
Our employees conduct research in a wide range of different wind and hydrogen technology fields. We are always on the lookout for students to offer us support in all of our fields, especially in our scientific departments, and at all IWES locations. Are you wondering what shape that might take? For example, you can impart your knowledge and skills in the field of hydrogen technology by providing help with the electrochemical investigations of electrolysis and fuel cell components. Would you rather work on one of our test benches for large components for wind turbines, for example: the nacelle test bench? Perhaps, you are more interested in software development? Or do you enjoy programming and modeling? Then, you have come to just the right place! You can also help with material testing and mold construction in the field of rotor blade production, contribute to the preparation and follow-up of offshore wind measurement campaigns, or support our team which is responsible for subsurface investigations. If you like simulation, perhaps, the simulation of wind farm sites would interest you. Still not found the right topic for you? No problem! Simply write and let us know in which field you would like to join us – as you can see, our fields of research are very diverse. Become an active member of the team; we are keen to hear your ideas! As an international oriented IWES-team, we highly appreciate an open exchange, whether this be in German or English. Respectful cooperation is also very important to us.

What you bring to the table

What is your background?
Different working areas have different requirements. Generally, it is suitable if you are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s/master’s program in Engineering or Natural Sciences. Have you already come into contact with wind and hydrogen technologies in the course of your studies? Perhaps, you also had the opportunity to deepen your theoretical knowledge in the scope of practical placements or part-time jobs? Do you want to expand your knowledge here and contribute your ideas? Then, we look forward to meeting you!

What you can expect

What we can offer you ...
We offer various opportunities to join us as a student. Whether it is an internship, where you gain a comprehensive insight into the areas of work, or the role of a student assistant, which is easy to combine with your studies. Are you looking for an exciting topic for your thesis and do you want to delve deeply into a topic scientifically? Together, we will find the right path for you! We know that studying can also be very demanding and requires a certain level of flexibility. That is no problem here, as – in agreement with your colleagues – you can decide flexibly what days and hours to work.
