Research Engineer* / Research Scientist* for Development of Radar Sensor Systems

The Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration, IZM, is one of the world's leading institutes for electronic packaging and system-integration technologies as well as for applied research and development of robust and reliable electronic components, modules and systems.

R&D activities at Fraunhofer IZM Branch Lab in Cottbus concentrate on the development of cost-effective, miniaturized and application-specific high-frequency sensors and high-speed systems as well as on the investigation of novel millimeter-wave and terahertz packaging solutions for these systems.

 

We focus on two main areas, namely:

  • Radar and proximity sensor systems for medical & healthcare, industrial automation, smart farming and security applications
  • High-speed modules, packages and boards for communication and computing

 

What you will do

  • Radar system design (e.g. for continuous wave radars such as FMCW, BPSK and MIMO radar)
  • Design and development of radar signal processing algorithms
  • Test of radar sensor systems
  • Radar link budget analysis

 

What you bring to the table

  • Scientific university degree in a technical subject such as Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar
  • Experience in design and test of radar systems at any frequency
  • Experience and/or interest in radar signal processing
  • Knowledge and experience in software tools such as Matlab, Python
  • Experience in C, C++ programming and/or interest in FPGA and microcontroller programming
  • Interest in acquisition of research and development projects in the area of radar sensor systems
  • Independent and structured working method
  • Team player

The contract is initially limited to two years with the potential for an extension. The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis.
