Head of a scientific department in the field of Cyberphysical Systems Security

Fraunhofer SIT is one of the leading research institutions for IT security in Germany and Europe. The focus is on applied research and the development of innovative solutions for real security and data protection issues of our time. The institute is part of the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE, the largest research center for cybersecurity in Europe, and is closely linked to the two partner universities Technische Universität Darmstadt and Goethe University Frankfurt. 
We are looking for a dynamic leader to head a research department in the field of cyberphysical systems security at the Institute's headquarters in Darmstadt. The position offers the opportunity to independently shape the research work of the Institute and ATHENE in this area and to build and lead a research team. In addition to research, it is also possible to participate independently in teaching at the Institute's two partner universities. The department head is responsible for setting priorities and developing the department's specialist strategy. Current projects of the institute, which are to be continued in the department, are in the areas of hardware security and trusted computing, security in the application areas of mobility, energy systems and production. The institute has an extensive hardware laboratory, which can be expanded if necessary.
 

 

What you will do

  • Head of a department in the field of cyberphysical systems security at the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology in Darmstadt
  • Contribution to the strategy development of the institute, in particular in the subject area of the department
  • Management of a scientific team, including personnel development
  • Independent acquisition of third-party funds
  • Conception, implementation and monitoring of research projects
  • Close cooperation with the institute´s other departments and with external partners in business, administration, society and in academic and industrial research and development
  • Responsibility for adherence to quality standards, budgets and schedules in all department projects
     

 

What you bring to the table

  • PhD in a relevant field, e.g. computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering
  • Several years of experience in research in the field of cyberphysical systems security
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English and German
  • Experience in applying for and carrying out scientific projects, in supervising and mentoring junior researchers and generally in personnel management is an advantage

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
