Student Assistant Windows Binary Fuzzing

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros. 

Fraunhofer SIT is one of the leading research and development institutes for secure information technology in Germany and Europe. The focus is on applied research and the development of innovative solutions for real security and data protection issues. The Secure Software Engineering research department researches and develops innovative solutions for the automatic identification of malware, vulnerabilities and exploits in software components. As a team, we have already developed and marketed various tools.

 

To support our team, we are now looking for a student assistant in the field of Windows Binary Fuzzing. IT security knowledge is not necessarily required.

 

What you will do

  • Evaluation of existing binary fuzzers on Windows binaries
  • Expanding program corpora for further evaluation of Windows binary fuzzers
  • Potentially co-develop a dynamic program analysis tool

 

What you bring to the table

  • Computer science degree and programming skills in C and C++ (please provide current transcript of records!)
  • Knowledge of x86-64 assembler
  • Experience with/interest in debugger-supported analysis of binaries without debug information
  • Knowledge of Windows Internals or willingness to familiarize yourself with Windows Internals
  • Interest in fuzzing
  • Ability to work independently and interest in learning new things

The weekly working time is 10-20 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
