ASIC Physical Designer

The Data Communication & Computing business unit supplies product-related solutions to application-specific problems for customers in industry and research.  These include hardware and software in the areas of optical wireless communication (Li-Fi), battery-free IoT sensor nodes, real-time communication systems, automotive electronics, RISC-V processors and AI algorithms.

As a Hardware Developer* Backend Digital you will have the opportunity to work in a highly innovative area as part of our dedicated team. You will specify, implement and optimize hardware components of complex SoCs and mixed-signal ASICs for high performance or low power. For this team we are currently looking for a talented and experienced ASIC Physical Designer who would like to support us.

 

What you will do

  • Responsibility for research and development in physical/backend design for SoCs or mixed-signal ASICs (implementing RTL design to GDSII).
  • Perform RTL code checking, static timing analysis, and test build using state-of-the-art design tools
  • Create floor planning and apply clock tree synthesis (CTS) for optimal chip run times
  • Independent verification of design drafts with regard to e.g. timing, power and noise (sign off) as well as central contact person for troubleshooting and analysis before production (DRC/LVS)
  • Proactively introduce future exciting development ideas and topics and drive the innovation processes forward
  • Supervision of students in scientific work

 

What you bring to the table

  • Successfully completed master's degree or diploma in computer science, electrical engineering or a related field
  • Several years of professional experience in the backend area
  • Technical know-how in ASIC Place&Route tools (e.g. Cadence or Synopsys) and experience with scripting languages like Shell, TCL, Make or Python 
  • Good knowledge in languages like VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog 
  • Personality: communicative and responsible team player with strong problem solving skills and the ability to think outside the box

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis. The position is limited to 2 years. A longer cooperation is aspired.
