Internship for IP verification and validation under use of virtual prototypes (VPs)
Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them to application - that is our goal at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.
Not all aspects of verification and validation can be adequately covered by purely RTL-based simulations. Specifically, demonstrating functionality and analyzing integrated safety mechanisms result in high simulation times. To better address these issues, a virtual prototype will be created. This prototype will significantly reduce simulation times through higher parallelization and enable targeted stimulation of hardware faults by adjusting the models.
To this end, a simulation environment based on a virtual prototype will be developed using an existing IP core.
What you will do
- Familiarization with the LIN-CTRL IP core and the LIN standard
- Creation of a SystemC model of the LIN-CTRL IP core and integration of functions for fault injection to analyze safety mechanisms using the open-source tool Verilator
- Development and implementation of a concept for software-based and automated testing of the SystemC model, including documentation of the results
The tasks can also be completed as part of a Bachelor's thesis.
What you bring to the table
- In the field of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a comparable discipline
- Knowledge of Verilog or VHDL
- Programming skills in C/C++
- Independent and self-organizing work style, as well as enjoyment of working in an international environment
- Good German and/or good English language skills complete your profile
What you can expect
We offer you an exciting task and valuable insights into the methods and procedures of a modern high-tech research institute. A motivated and dynamic team awaits you in a very well-equipped research and development environment. In addition, we offer you connecting points within the framework of your studies or your career entry, e.g. a topic for your thesis or the beginning of your career at Fraunhofer IPMS. We support you!
The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position is temporary for the duration of the internship. The duration is flexible according to agreement and possible study guidelines. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Remuneration according to the federal government guidelines for intern salaries.
