Process Engineer for PVD procedures

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them into application - that is our goal at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in various markets such as automotive, industry, aerospace.

At the Center of Nanoelectronic Technologies PVD processes are key for current research and development projects on different emerging fields like Quantum Computing, Spintronics or non-volatile memories (MRAM, Racetrack, FeFET, RRAM,) as well as interconnect applications.

What you will do

  • Experimental planning: You will be responsible for planning and conducting experiments in the field of thin film deposition - with a focus on PVD processes. Experience with other methods such as MBE or CVD is an advantage.
  • System operation: In our modern cleanroom, you will operate sophisticated 300 mm deposition systems and contribute your expertise in a targeted manner.
  • System responsibility: As the responsible tool owner, you will be responsible for documentation, planning system utilization and coordinating maintenance work.
  • Wafer analysis: You will actively support the processing of wafers and use various physical, optical and electrical analysis methods to characterize them.
  • Process optimization: You will optimize existing processes specifically with regard to electrical, optical and physical properties - with a particular focus on uniformity across the entire 300 mm wafer.

  • Superconductor expertise: Experience in the development of superconducting layers is a welcome asset.

What you bring to the table

  • Education: You have a bachelor's degree in a natural science or engineering course - e.g. physics, chemistry, materials science, electrical engineering, process engineering or a comparable field.
  • Interest: The world of semiconductor technology fascinates you and, on the top of that, you have an interest in working in a cleanroom.
  • Practical experience: Ideally, you have already gained some practical experience in a cleanroom or have worked on the development of superconducting layers.
  • Specialist knowledge: You have technical know-how and are curious about superconducting materials and their deposition processes.
  • Language skills: You communicate confidently in German and English and feel comfortable in an international environment.
  • Working style: You combine your technical understanding with an enjoyment of experimental research and precise practical work.
  • Personal responsibility: You are committed, work independently and are an active member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in a team: Team spirit and an open communication style round off your profile.
