Research Associate - Functional Safety

What you will do

Are you interested in applied scientific work with a high level of practical relevance and customer contact in the field of functional safety and architecture of safety-critical systems?


Then you have come to the right place!

 

Together with an interdisciplinary team, you will develop novel architectures for safety-critical systems. In this context, you will plan the further development of existing system architectures for use in safety-critical applications in close contact with industry partners and development departments of Fraunhofer IIS/EAS and explore new ways to implement the requirements in the most cost- and effort-optimized way. In another field of work, you will work with the technical contact persons for the development of safety-critical systems to determine which verifications are required to ensure functional safety in accordance with ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 within an application project. This includes planning the necessary verification steps and close communication with the designers and system architects.

 

What you bring to the table

  • Completed scientific studies in electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or comparable discipline
  • Experience in developing the architecture of electronic systems and interest in the challenges of functional safety or in the design of safety-critical systems
  • Ideally, experience with common functional safety analysis methods (e.g. FTA, FMEA)
  • Knowledge of safety-relevant standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 26262 is an advantage
  • Willingness to learn, ability to work in a team but also ability to work independently and self-management
  • Fluent in written and spoken German and English

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis. The position is limited to 2 years.
