Working student in the field of thermal management for scalable quantum computers

At Fraunhofer-Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS, we work at the highest international level on nanoelectronic, mechanical and optical components and their integration into tiny, "intelligent" devices and systems. 


Our high performance technology research group in the business unit Next Generation Computing is working on the transfer of promising quantum technologies from laboratory scale to industrial scale on state-of-the art 300 mm tool platforms. A particular focus is on the development of high-density interconnect technologies that can establish good electrical but poor thermal contact at temperatures close to absolute zero.
As part of the working student position, a measurement station for electrical and thermal characterization of quantum devices at cryogenic temperatures will be designed and operated.

 

What you will do

  • Design and construction of a sample holder for our low-temperature cryostat
  • Testing and validation of electrical and thermal-conductivity measurements at temperatures near absolute zero
  • Characterization of quantum devices from current research

 

There is also the possibility to implement this topic as an internship in cooperation with our research group as well as to write a thesis afterwards. 

 

What you bring to the table

  • Currently pursuing a technical or scientific degree
  • Knowledge in the use of CAD software
  • Team spirit, curiosity as well as enthusiasm for working in a scientific environment
  • Good English or German language skills
