Expert for 5G radio protocol and communications technology

We are engaged in satellite-based technologies of the future. Our current research and development work focuses on systems for stationary and mobile applications in the context of novel IoT systems and 5G-related technologies.

What you will do

As part of the Fraunhofer IIS 3GPP RAN WG1/2 delegation, you will:

  • develop radio standardization specifications in the area of 5G NTN protocol, and eventually 6G
  • contribute to and participate in 3GPP RAN WG1/2 meetings, representing Fraunhofer IIS
  • create inventions and intellectual property (IPR’s) and support strengthening of Fraunhofer IPR portfolio
  • contribute to and participate in customer dialogues on the latest trends in wireless technology and standardization. 
  • develop innovative radio system solutions for 5G-NTN technology with world class team


What you bring to the table

  • MSc degree or PhD in the area of communication technologies, signal processing or signal transmission   
  • An understanding of 5G radio access system and first experience in 5G radio protocol layer research or development
  • Experience in link level simulations (Matlab/Python)
  • Proficiency in technical writing
  • Fluent English, strong communication and negotiation skills


It would be nice if you also have:

  • Experience in 3GPP standardization and of system-level simulations 
  • Willingness to travel 
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-national (and distributed) team

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim to extend it subsequently.
