Hardware Developer - Integrated Circuits RFIC / RF Circuit Technology

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 2.9 billion euros.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS is one of Europe's leading IC design facilities. Our many years of design expertise are complemented by in-depth system knowledge in the fields of multimedia, digital communications, image processing and sensor systems. The developments of our scientists find their way into applications in the automotive industry, household appliances, industrial technology, data transmission as well as lifestyle and medical technology products, and are deployed in high quantities. Our research and development activities focus on the design of application-specific integrated RF IPs and ASICs in the frequency range up to 30 GHz. We realize and implement customer-specific solutions in commercial standard CMOS/FD-SOI up to 22 nanometers, as well as SiGe BiCMOS technologies. Our current focus lies on the ultra-low power receiver technology RFicient® with a power consumption in the microwatt range, in addition to RF control electronics for quantum computers.

What you will do

  • As a member of our team of developers and researchers, your job as a hardware developer for ICs will be to specify, design and verify hardware components.
  • You will then integrate these components using state-of-the-art simulation and layout tools.
  • In addition, you will construct prototypes and carry out metrological verifications of the circuits.

What you bring to the table

  • A degree in electrical engineering, physics or a similar field
  • Profound knowledge in analog circuit design as well as experience in using simulation and layout tools
  • Basic project experience in analog or mixed-signal IC design
  • Interest in developing expert knowledge along with an interest in working on specifications for projects, systems and chips
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken

What you can expect

  • Diverse projects with a high level of practical relevance that feature interdisciplinary system aspects
  • A broad spectrum of design activities, ranging from developments suitable for production (meeting yield, QM, design-for-test requirements) to scientific prototypes of new technologies and for future applications
  • An open, communicative and collegial atmosphere throughout the institute
  • Leeway for a high degree of independence and personal responsibility while organizing your work
  • Advanced career development through continuous education and training
  • Work-life balance through flexible working hours, hybrid working and other support services for work-life balance

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position is limited for two years with the posibillity of an extension. It can also be filled on a part time basis.
