Research Associate / 3GPP Delegate - 5G / 6G Standardization

Our department Broadband and Broadcasting is driving the development of new technologies for wireless communication systems and to this end is conducting very successful research in many areas of 5G / 6G mobile communications, automotive, energy conservation and artificial intelligence. Our mission here is to bring new concepts from basic research to application. 


What you will do

In our dedicated team, you will contribute to new concepts and improvements on topics such as V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) and energy efficiency in the area of 5G / 6G mobile communications. To this end, you will follow the 3GPP standardization work in the areas of V2X and power saving and contribute to the improvement and extension of the 3GPP standard through your own contributions. After a familiarization phase, you will participate as a 3GPP Delegate in the 3GPP meetings in order to advance the 5G standard towards 6G together with other companies from the mobile communications industry. In addition, you can supervise student theses and contribute to scientific publications. 


What you bring to the table

  • Completed scientific university studies in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field of study
  • Good knowledge of the mobile communication standards LTE and 5G especially on the physical layer (layer 1)
  • Enjoy creative, cooperative work and the development of new ideas as well as open exchange within the team
  • Good English language skills and communication skills for working in an international environment 


In addition, knowledge of or interest in the following topics is an advantage (comprehensive familiarization is guaranteed):

  • Ph.D. in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study
  • Mobile radio knowledge with focus on Layer 1 (Physical Layer) based on 3GPP technical specifications for NR / 5G
  • Interest / experience in areas such as V2X / Sidelink, Network Coverage and Power Saving 
  • Experience with 5G, specifically in the cellular domain as well as link or system level simulation
  • German language skills

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim to extend it subsequently.
