Research Engineer - Binaural Audio and Virtual Acoustics

The Audio and Media Technologies division of Fraunhofer IIS has shaped the international standards and technologies used in the audio and film industry for over 30 years. Today, you can find systems and technologies developed by Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen, Germany in a large number of devices and consumer electronics devices.
 

 Our developments in binaural technology have enabled 

  • Cingo®, for example, to bring the 3D sound experience used in cinemas to mobile devices — particularly in cases where an immersive codec like MPEG-H is used in the transmission process. 
  • Smartphone and tablet users can enjoy a 3D listening experience through the built-in speakers or using an ordinary headset. 

 

What you will do

​Your duties:

  • Acoustic measurement techniques and psychoacoustics
  • Audio signal analysis and processing
  • Sound enhancement, tuning
  • Fixed point/DSP implementation

 

What you bring to the table

  • A university degree in electrical engineering and information technology, computer science, mathematics or a related subject 
  • An interest in (psycho)acoustics, audio coding and audio signal processing 
  • Basic knowledge of digital (audio) signal processing 
  • Experience of MatLab and/or C/C++

The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim to extend it subsequently. The weekly working time is 39 hours.  We would like to point out that the chosen job title also includes the third gender.
