Software Engineer - Digital Broadcast & Streaming

Our »Audio and Media Technologies« department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS has been shaping the digitization of the media landscape for more than 30 years. With mp3 and Advanced Audio Coding, we have developed pioneering standards in the past. Today, our broadcasting and streaming technologies are used in mobile networks, TV and OTT applications and digital radios, providing interactive and immersive sound solutions and excellent quality for streaming worldwide.

What you will do

  • You will create, design and implement algorithms and programs for multimedia applications in various operating systems.
  • Additionally, you will develop, customize, extend and configure software for the ContentServer platform of various broadcasting systems, such as Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) on a Linux environment. 
  • You will also develop, implement and test protocols and applications.
  • You will verify your work results on various prototypes, end devices and server systems.


What you bring to the table

  • University degree in computer science, information technology / IT, electrical engineering, communications engineering, physics, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency with C Programming or an object-oriented programming language such as C++ or Java
  • Experience in Linux system configuration
  • Basic knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python or Perl) and web technologies (HTML, JavaScript or CSS)
  • Ideally, familiarity with mobile operating systems, digital broadcasting and internet streaming, and programming under Linux
  • Fluent in German and English


The position is also suitable for career starters with relevant prior knowledge and experience from internships, student research projects or final theses.
