Master Thesis: Hardware Control in Quantum Technologies
The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) is one of the world's leading research institutes in the fields of III/V seminconductors and synthetic diamond. Together with our partners from industry and science, we research and develop electronic, optoelectronic and quantum technological components and systems. The focus is on research and development for applications in the fields of security, health, energy, information and communication. In the field of quantum technology, the institute is working on realizing a quantum computer based on color centres in diamond. We use nitrogen vacancy (NV) centres in diamond to generate qubits. Using microwave CBD, we generate NV centres by doping with nitrogen during the diamond growth and characterize them on site with regard to their spin properties using the existing measurement setups. As part of the master's thesis, you will conduct experiments on the coherent control of spin states in diamond, optimized with control hardware. The goal is to demonstrate complex pulse sequences and their suitability as quantum gates for NV centres in diamond at room temperature.
