Student Assistant "Connection Technology & Solar Module Development"

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar energy research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1,400 employees are working for a sustainable, economic, safe and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our research priorities of energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. We are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global collaborations.

Would you like to actively shape the energy transition and gain practical experience during your studies?

The team "Conductive Adhesives" is part of the "Photovoltaic Modules" department. Our team's task is to connect high-efficiency solar cells, such as heterojunction, shingle, or tandem solar cells, using conductive adhesives. We collaborate with numerous industry partners to realize novel module technologies with conductive adhesives. In the projects, we investigate the material and joining properties, as well as the processes for the successful application of the adhesives. The matrix shingle technology is particularly suitable for applications in integrated photovoltaics due to its outstanding masonry optics.

For our team "Conductive Adhesives," we are looking for a student assistant to start as soon as possible.

What you will do

  • You will be trained step by step as a machine operator and actively support the ongoing production processes.

  • You will independently conduct quality control in parallel with production and prepare the product for further processing or shipping.

  • You will prepare the production and testing processes by, for example, attaching connectors or cutting films and organizing the corresponding workflows.

  • You will take on administrative tasks, such as placing orders and documenting production steps.

  • You will assist in maintaining the general laboratory infrastructure by, for example, restocking supplies and keeping the workspaces tidy.

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying materials science, engineering, natural sciences, or a comparable field.

  • You have fundamental knowledge in solar cell and module technology.

  • You possess practical skills and are confident in handling industrial equipment.

  • You work reliably and independently and take responsibility for your tasks.

  • You have excellent communication skills and can communicate confidently in both German and English.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is a given for you.

  • It is important for you to contribute to your team and achieve common goals through interdisciplinary collaboration.

What you can expect

  • Exclusive Insight: By working together with the scientists in our department, you will gain insight into the day-to-day research and development at a research institute.

  • Laboratory Infrastructure: At Fraunhofer ISE, we work with state-of-the-art equipment and devices so that research projects can be carried out using the latest technology.

  • Research mix: We offer you the opportunity to combine experimental work with theory, thus applying and expanding the knowledge you gained during your studies.

  • Supervision: You will be supervised by scientists during your work and receive feedback on your progress.

  • Teamwork: You will gain experience of working in a team with our scientific and student employees and can contribute the experience you have already gained.

  • Working hours and location: We offer you the opportunity to flexibly adapt your working hours to your needs in consultation with your manager and to work from home from time to time.

  • Equal opportunities: We value equal opportunities and embrace diversity.

  • After work: Celebrate yourself and your colleagues at after-work events or our annual employee parties, such as the hiking day.

Remuneration is based on the level of your university degree.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled people will be given preference if equally qualified.

Have we piqued your interest? Then apply online now with your detailed application documents (including cover letter, CV, reference/performance record). We look forward to getting to know you!
