Student Assistant "Thermal Modeling of Solar Green Roofs"

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 800 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.0 billion euros.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1,400 employees work for a sustainable, economic, secure and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our main research areas of energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global collaborations, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

Do you want to be part of a highly motivated group and actively shape the energy transition? Then let's contribute with simulations around the topic of building-integrated PV (BIPV) so that BIPV becomes a respected, aesthetically pleasing and functional mass product.

For our group "Solar Building Envelopes" we are looking for a research assistant to start on 01.06.2024.

What you will do

  • You support the programming of a model for the hygrothermal performance of solar green roofs.

  • You will carry out simulations independently, evaluate the results and visualize them, e.g. for industry inquiries or projects on these topics.

  • You will work on an EU project on integrated photovoltaics with 20 international partners.

What you bring to the table

  • You are enrolled as a student in architecture or civil engineering, electrical engineering, construction management or building physics or have a background in supply engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or computer science.

  • You have good programming skills, preferably in Python.

  • You have knowledge in the field of heat transport.

  • Knowledge of data visualization and the use of Linux is desirable.

  • You work independently, in a structured and committed manner and are happy to contribute your own ideas.

What you can expect

  • You will work with one of the most popular employers on a par with the best.

  • Open-minded colleagues are happy to welcome new talents into their ranks.

  • We offer flexible working time models and give you the opportunity to work from home at times.

  • We also foster a cooperative working atmosphere and open communication.

  • We value equal opportunities and allow room for diversity.

  • You can participate in attractive sports and health programs and after-work activities.

Remuneration is based on the level of degree in an accredited course of studies. The monthly working time is 60-80 hours.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.

Interested? Apply online now (including your CV, motivation letter and if available certificates). We look forward to getting to know you!
