Student assistant "Perovskite-Silicon-Tandem Solar Cells - Laboratory Support"

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) is one of the world's leading organizations for application-oriented research. 75 institutes develop pioneering technologies for our economy and society – more precisely: 32 000 people from technology, science, administration and IT. They know: Anyone who comes to Fraunhofer wants to and can make a difference. For themselves, for us and for the markets of today and tomorrow.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is Europe's largest solar research institute. Our approximately 1,400 employees work toward a sustainable, economical, secure, and socially equitable energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this goal with our research priorities in energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage, and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, spin-offs, and global collaborations, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

Would you like to play an active role in shaping the energy transition and gain practical experience while you are still studying? Then join our group, which is researching a wide range of concepts for increasing the efficiency of solar cells. To this end, we are developing silicon-based tandem solar cells to improve the utilization of the solar spectrum.

For our “Perovskite Materials and Interfaces" group, we are looking for a student assistant to work on the topic “Perovskite-Silicon-Tandem Solar Cells - Laboratory” as soon as possible.

  • Your tasks will include supporting laboratory management, e.g., inventorying chemicals and consumables.
  • You will perform optical measurements of thin films (UV-Vis spectrometer).
  • You will perform measurements to determine the efficiency of novel solar cells.
  • You will document the measurement results.
  • You will take care of the consumables in the laboratories (e.g., gloves, shoe covers, lab coats).

What you contribute

  • You are studying a scientific/technical subject, such as chemistry, physics, or a comparable field.
  • You have a basic understanding of how to handle hazardous substances and laboratory work.
  • Previous experience of working in gray/clean rooms and with glovebox systems is helpful but not essential.
  • You plan and complete tasks independently, to a high standard, and enjoy the implementation process.
  • It is important to you to contribute to your team and to achieve common goals through collaboration.
  • You are confident in using MS Office.
  • You have successfully demonstrated your good written and spoken English skills.

What we offer

  • Laboratory Infrastructure: At Fraunhofer ISE, we work with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, enabling us to carry out research projects using the latest technology.
  • Research Mix: We offer you the opportunity to combine experimental work with theory, allowing you to apply and expand the knowledge you have gained during your studies.
  • Supervision: You will be supervised by scientists in your work and receive feedback on your progress.
  • Teamwork: Through interaction with scientific and student staff, you will gain experience in teamwork and can contribute your own experience.
  • Working Hours and Location: We offer you the opportunity to flexibly adjust your working hours to suit your needs and to work from home from time to time.
  • Equal Opportunities: We value equal opportunities and embrace diversity.
