Thesis "Hybrid deposition of perovskite layers"
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1,400 employees are working towards a sustainable, economic, safe and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our research priorities of energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. We are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global collaborations.
Would you like to actively shape the energy transition and write your thesis in this field? With us, you will find the experts and the environment to help you achieve these goals.
The focus of the thesis on the topic “Hybrid deposition of perovskite layers for the production of tandem solar cells” is the development of homogeneous wet-coating processes for applying a component of the perovskite absorber and the controlled drying and crystallization of the layer. Variations of the process atmosphere, the solvent, and other process and material characteristics are planned. The process is intended to replace the current laboratory standard, spin coating, and thus contribute to the scalability of the production of perovskite silicon tandem solar cells. For this purpose, the group “Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Cells Scaling” has access to an extensive laboratory infrastructure with the latest process technology. In addition, we can use the entire spectrum of the institute's photovoltaic technology across teams and work in close cooperation with the University of Freiburg. This results in a research infrastructure and expertise that offers you unique opportunities worldwide.
For our group “Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Cells Scaling” we are looking for a student assistant with the opportunity to write a thesis at the earliest opportunity.
What you will do
-
The aim of your thesis is to investigate the influence of process parameters on the coating in order to achieve the best possible material quality and homogeneity of the perovskite absorber.
-
Your tasks include planning and conducting experiments.
-
You characterize the coating.
-
You evaluate and interpret the results.
-
You document your results cleanly and conscientiously, summarize them and present them both internally and externally.
What you bring to the table
-
You are studying materials science, crystallography, chemistry, physics or a related field.
-
Previous knowledge in the field of tandem solar cells or perovskite is an advantage.
-
You have a basic knowledge of the characterization of solar cells or semiconductors or want to delve deeper into this.
-
You plan and complete tasks independently and with high quality.
-
You work independently and with commitment.
-
You can express yourself confidently in German and/or English.
What you can expect
-
Exclusive insight: By working together with the scientists in our department, you will gain an insight into the day-to-day research and development work at a research institute.
-
Laboratory infrastructure: At Fraunhofer ISE, we work with state-of-the-art equipment and devices so that research projects can be carried out using the latest technology.
-
Research mix:You will have the opportunity to combine experimental work with theory, thus applying and expanding the knowledge you gained during your studies.
