Scientist in the field of environmental DNA

The Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME conducts applied life sciences from molecules to ecosystems. The branch of Bioresources offers a diverse and challenging field of work in a stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment with excellent infrastructure and many industrial cooperation partners.

 

What you will do

•    Develop and implement methods for analysing environmental DNA (eDNA) from soil and water samples
•    Collaborate with other researchers and industry partners to design eDNA experiments and interpret results
•    Coordinate eDNA field sampling and sample curation in a biobank
•    Use bioinformatics tools to manage and analyse large eDNA datasets
•    Write research papers based on eDNA analyses and present results at conferences
•    Apply for external funding to support ongoing research

 

What you bring to the table

We are looking for a motivated, dedicated individual who wants to work in a creative and open research environment and welcome the following qualifications:


•    A Master’s degree in biology or a related subject in the life and/or natural sciences
•    A PhD or equivalent in molecular biology (e.g., DNA barcoding, next generation sequencing, metagenomics)
•    Practical experience with ecological samples and/or biological collections
•    Very good communication and organisational skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a team
•    Very good written and spoken English
•    Good track record of scientific publications and research funding

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
