Research Associate Quantum Imaging (IOF-2023-78)
Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. Our research efforts are geared entirely to people’s needs: health, security, communication, energy and the environment. As a result, the work undertaken by our researchers and developers has a significant impact on people’s lives. We are creative. We shape technology. We design products. We improve methods and techniques. We open up new vistas. We are looking for a postdoc for the department »Emerging Technologies« to work on research topics in the field of quantum imaging, in the group led by Dr. Valerio Gili. The group focuses on the development of quantum imaging components and systems. As a branch of quantum optics, the ultimate performance limits of optical imaging made possible by the laws of quantum mechanics are explored. Using the methods and techniques of quantum optics, the group addresses issues of imaging, processing, and detection with sensitivity and resolution. Quantum mechanically entangled light particles overcome the limitations of classical optics and allow insights into previously invisible wavelength ranges. Thus, they offer new possibilities for imaging techniques, microscopy, and spectroscopy. The long-term challenge is to explore these possibilities and to develop technological solutions for research and industry.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF) in Jena conducts applied research in optical system technology on behalf of the industry and as part of publicly funded joint projects. The range of services offered by the Fraunhofer IOF includes system solutions, starting with new design concepts, through the development of technologies, manufacturing and measuring methods to the construction of prototypes and pilot series for applications in the wavelength range from millimeter to nanometer.
