Technical employee for design and simulation of opto-mechanical components and systems (IOF-2022-77)

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF) in Jena conducts applied research in optical system technology on behalf of the industry and as part of publicly funded joint projects. The range of services offered by the Fraunhofer IOF includes system solutions, starting with new design concepts, through the development of technologies, manufacturing and measuring methods to the construction of prototypes and pilot series for applications in the wavelength range from millimeter to nanometer. 


For the department Optical and Mechanical System Design, we are looking for a technical employee to support our team in the area of design and simulation of opto-mechanical components and systems. The focus of the work is to transfer system designs and concepts into an opto-mechanical overall system as well as the simulation of these with regard to internal and external disturbance variables.


What you will do

  • Design and construction of opto-mechanical elements and systems
  • FEM simulation of the designs (thermal, mechanical)
  • Preparation of drawing sets for production
  • Documentation of the designs and preparation of alignment instructions
  • Project management


What you bring to the table

  • You have a degree in engineering (M.Eng.) in the field of aerospace technologies, mechanical engineering, or precision engineering.
  • You have experience in design (CAD), e.g., CREO as well as basic knowledge in FEM analysis (CREO Simulate, Ansys).
  • Ideally, you have programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Phyton).
  • Since Fraunhofer IOF works on an international level, we require a good command of German and English.
  • Your strengths include a high degree of independence as well as the ability to work in a team.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled in on a part-time basis. The position is initially limited to 2 years. We are looking for a long-term cooperation. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).
