Research assistant as a doctoral candidate - Data economy, data protection and regulation

The position is located in the Competence Center “New Technologies” and is to be filled at the earliest possible date. The Competence Center deals with the identification, evaluation and design of new technological developments and socio-technical transformations.

 

What you will do

  • You are a doctoral candidate in the doctoral program at Fraunhofer ISI based on a four-year contract. You are writing your thesis at the intersection of project work and your own independent scientific research with a strong focus on current issues in applied research.
  • You will work in the business area of “information and communication technologies”, which deals with the analysis of application conditions, market development potential and the technical consequences of new information technology, such as artificial intelligence, synthetic realities or quantum communication.
  • You will work on various national and international research and consulting projects that focus on issues of data use and data protection, for exampleparticularly in data spaces (for example in the Health or Mobility sector), e.g. in the “Platform Privacy” projects.
  • You will present your research in international publications, at conferences and scientific congresses and in research reports.
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute and further develop your own research ideas. 

 

What you bring to the table

  • You have successfully obtained an above-average university degree (master's degree or equivalent ) in the field of law and social sciences, with a focus on political, media and communication sciences, sociology and economics (business administration and economics), and are also interested in natural science and technical developments. 
  • You are also interested in and ideally already have some experience of issues related to the regulation of new (information) technology and would like to do your doctorate in this field. 
  • You are interested in working on interdisciplinary issues at the interface between technology, economics and politics and are highly motivated to take part in interdisciplinary dis-course. 
  • You also have a good command of written and spoken German and English and the ability to present work results convincingly both orally and in writing.
  • You are very interested in interdisciplinary issues and also have a high degree of independence and the ability to work in a team.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
