Research Assistant in the Group Grid Control and Grid Dynamics
The Fraunhofer IEE in Kassel conducts research in the fields of energy economics and energy system technology with a focus on: energy informatics, energy meteorology and geographic information systems, energy economics and system design, energy process engineering and storage, grid planning and grid operation, grid stability and power converter technology, and thermal energy technology. Around 450 scientists, employees and students develop solutions for the energy transition and generate around 40 million euros in income per year.
What you will do
We are working and researching projects to ensure dynamic grid stability (<10s) with high penetration of renewables and new consumers. These include, for example, investigations into the grid compatibility and grid friendliness of electrolyzers. We use dynamic simulations to carry out system studies that depict the future grid. To meet the resulting challenges, we develop new control algorithms and analyse their effect. These include, for example, instantaneous reserve provision by electrolyzers or concepts for low-voltage ride-through.
Your activities:
- Participation in current research projects in the context of dynamic grid stability
- Implementation and documentation of simulative studies in PowerFactory
- Modelling of converter-based systems in PowerFactory
- Implementation of test cases and grids in PowerFactory
What you bring to the table
- Degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent)
- Basic knowledge of DIgSILENT Power Factory
- Knowledge of the Python programming language desirable
- Independent, structured and conscientious way of working
What you can expect
- Close cooperation with our research colleagues
- Flexible and individual adaptation of working hours to lecture and exam times
- The opportunity to work both on the modern IEE campus and remotely
- An open and helpful working atmosphere
