Student with Thesis (optional) Measuring Impact of Research and Information

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

Who we are ...
At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are: offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. More than 400 employees – including around 100 students – from over 50 countries work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams on the development of innovative methods to accelerate the expansion of the wind energy and hydrogen economy, minimize risks, and increase cost efficiency. Do you want to join us in shaping a sustainable future?

This team needs your support ...
You will be part of the »Stakeholder Management« group at our site in Leuna. At present, our team consists of five research associates. We form the interface between research, industry and politics. A culture of open exchange and collaboration, even across team boundaries and locations, is important to us. We provide the necessary space to develop and realize innovative ideas. Become an active member of the team; we are keen to hear your ideas! As an international oriented IWES-team, we highly appreciate an open exchange, whether this be in German or English. Respectful cooperation is also very important to us. You are wondering what you can bring to the team?

What you will do

These duties await you ...
You will help develop a method that makes it possible to measure the value of information from research projects. This includes both a cost analysis of the scientific work and the measurement of the monetary added value of the information generated by this research. The resulting methodology should make the influence of this information on business risks and decisions measurable. Ideally, you will directly develop a tool that enables measurement for our scientific staff. The topics will cover all of our institute's key research areas, from the wind energy sector with an offshore focus to the hydrogen economy with its electrolysis technologies. The work will be carried out in close cooperation with a researcher who will help you gain access to all the necessary information and contacts within the Fraunhofer IWES. Sounds like a lot? Do not worry, you will be supported by your colleagues in the team.

What you bring to the table

What is your background?
You are studying Economics, Industrial Engineering or a comparable degree program? Do you have advanced knowledge of Excel? Do you have basic knowledge of impact measurement? Ideally, you even had your first contact with cost uncertainty reduction and entrepreneurial risks? Great, then you have come to the right place! Preferably, you have technical knowledge in the fields of wind energy and hydrogen as well as some experience with Python.

What you can expect

What we can offer you ...
We offer various opportunities to join us as a student. Whether it is an internship, where you gain a comprehensive insight into the areas of work, or the role of a student assistant, which is easy to combine with your studies. Are you looking for an exciting topic for your thesis and do you want to delve deeply into a topic scientifically? Together, we will find the right path for you! We know that studying can also be very demanding and requires a certain level of flexibility. That is no problem here, as – in agreement with your colleagues – you can decide flexibly what days and hours to work. Temporarily, you can even work remotely, depending on the job.
