(Senior) Research Project Manager

Safe Intelligence — this forms the core brand of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS. Connected cognitive systems drive innovation in many sectors, for example in autonomous vehicles, medical devices or intelligent automation within industry. What you will do

We are looking for an experienced project manager to lead medium to large-scale multi-year research projects in the area of safety assurance of cognitive cyber-physical systems. Your responsibilities will involve ensuring that the research results are delivered on time and budget by supporting a diverse team of talented researchers to meet project objectives. This includes working with partners from other research institutions as well as industry as part of publicly and industrially funded projects. If you are highly motivated with an independent way of working and a critical thinking mindset, and are a teamplayer as a doer and thinker then we are looking for you.


What you bring to the table

  • Master or doctoral degree in computer science, mathematics, control systems or similar studies
  • Very good communication skills
  • Preferably, initial experience in the areas of safety and artificial intelligence
  • Excellent project management skills, including the use of agile methods
  • Experience in coordinating research projects, including the interaction with industrial and academic partners as part of publicly funded programmes
  • Working level of English and German


A strong plus if you also bring in

  • Experience in engaging with industry or working in industry
  • Experience in writing research grant proposals

The position is initially limited to 2 years.
