Master Thesis: Enhanced Reflective Pulse Oximetry Using Hardware and Machine Learning
CAREER IN MICROTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH – BIG OPPORTUNITIES WITH SMALL STRUCTURES! The spin-off SoreAlert (website) is developing a smart patch that prevents pressure ulcers before they develop. This helps patients, makes everyday work easier for caregivers, and reduces the burden on the healthcare system. A key feature of the smart patch is a reflective pulse oximeter that is used, among other things, to monitor blood flow in the skin.
CHANGE STARTS WITH US.
Do you want to change the world through science? Then the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Microsystems and Solid State Technologies EMFT is the perfect place to start your career!
With around 190 highly qualified employees at our locations in Munich, Oberpfaffenhofen and Regensburg, we combine many years of experience with extensive expertise in microelectronics and microsystems technology. Our wide range of technologies spans from advanced semiconductor processes and MEMS technologies to innovative 3D integration and flexible electronics.
These nano and microtechnologies form the foundation of our diverse fields of expertise, which include sensor technology, circuit design, system solutions with AI, analysis and testing, as well as micropumps.
Through the close collaboration of our experts, not only groundbreaking innovations arise, but also synergies that enable Fraunhofer EMFT to effectively tackle the complex challenges of our time.
We are currently looking for a motivated student to support our team in research and development.
Be part of change
• University or college degree in electrical engineering and information technology, computer science, or a comparable field
• Good knowledge of electronic hardware design and Python
• Ability to work independently
What you contribute
• You identify the biggest factors influencing the signal quality of reflective pulse oximeters
• You develop electronic hardware with different arrangements of analog front ends, light-emitting diodes, and photodetectors
• You record data sets that can be used to compare the arrangements
• You select suitable algorithms to evaluate the quality of the PPG signals (machine learning, Python)
What we offer
We offer you a challenging and varied research role with responsibility and creative freedom.
As part of our young spin-off team, you will gain first-hand insights into Munich's start-up scene. You will be able to make your mark and bring your ideas to life in projects. This will allow you to develop scientifically, professionally, and personally.
We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Our tasks are diverse and adaptable – for applicants with disabilities, we work together to find solutions that best promote their abilities. Remuneration according to the general works agreement for employing assistant staff.
