Research Associate (m/f/x) for RF Design

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 800 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.0 billion euros.

Fraunhofer EMFT conducts cutting-edge applied research on sensors and actuators for people and the environment. The about 150 employees in the three locations in Munich, Oberpfaffenhofen and Regensburg possess impressive long-term experience and wide-ranging know-how in the fields of microelectronics and microsystem technology. The technology offering of the research institute ranges from semiconductor processes, MEMS technologies and 3D integration to foil electronics. These nano- and microtechnologies are the basis for the other competence areas at Fraunhofer EMFT: sensor solutions, safe and secure electronics, and micropumps. The interdisciplinary interaction of these competencies enables the development of truly novel solutions to meet the current challenges facing our society.

You are enthusiastic about power-efficient integrated RF, analoge and mixed-signal circuits? You enjoy creative work and strive to develop new ideas? You are a teamplayer with a structured way of working? What you will do

  • In the team Circuit Design you create very high frequency integrated circuits in the sub-THz range for the next generation optical and wireless sensor and communication systems.
  • You explore and evaluate novel devices for your design and collaborate across teams and organizations to find the best architecture, topology and implementation for the RF-frontend circuits based on advanced CMOS, BiCMOS and state-of-the-art InP-process technologies.
  • You work with customers and research partners to develop specific and innovative solutions for existing or new markets.
  • You publish research results and represent them at conferences.
  • You supervise students in the course of writing their Bachelor's or Master's thesis.

What you bring to the table

  • Above-average academic degree in electrical engineering
  • At least 3 years of professional experience
  • Very good knowledge of RF and mm-wave integrated circuit design
  • Good knowledge of the Cadence design flow and implementation of the specification up to a complete circuit including layout, taking into account the electromagnetic field and parasitic effects
  • Good knowledge of setting up a test environment for the verification of integrated circuits
  • Knowledge in the design of BiCMOS or III-V based circuits is an advantage
  • Tape-out experience is an advantage

What you can expect

  • A challenging and varied role with significance, responsibility and creative freedom - you will dedicate yourself to the challenges of our society and help shape the future.
  • Room for commitment and creativity - you can set a course and realise your ideas in the team and in the projects
  • Teamwork makes the dream work - collaboration in an interdisciplinary and international team and integration into a large scientific network
  • Individual and extensive training opportunities and career boosters for your professional and personal development, e.g. opportunities for a doctorate or participation in the TALENTA women's promotion programme
  • Compatibility of private life, family and career through flexible working time models, co-working office and mobile working as well as other offers
  • Good transport connections and a discounted job ticket with employer subsidy
  • Central location in the heart of Munich
