Master thesis »Selection and design of an absorber system for separating CO2 from flue gas«

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

As one of 76 institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft we show how to not only master crises, but grow from them. Pushing boundaries. Always trying something new. Not just thinking, but thinking ahead. We turn research into the future.

We want an earth that is worth living on. With our applied research on Circular Economy, Carbon Management, Green Hydrogen and Local Energy Systems, we make concrete contributions to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Our employees conduct research in the fields of energy, environment, safety, health, communication and mobility.

Reducing CO₂ emissions in industrial processes is necessary to achieve climate targets. Waste incineration plants unavoidably generate flue gases containing CO₂, the recycling of which through separation and utilization in a low-temperature electrolysis (NTCE) to synthesis gas (CO, H₂) is a future-oriented approach. The aim of this master's thesis is to select and analytically design a technically and economically viable absorber system for the separation of CO₂ from flue gases. The focus is on the scientific evaluation of the technologies, the analytical design of the fluid-dynamic processes and a critical assessment with regard to feasibility and cost.
