The Network Research group in COOP develops solutions to connect underserved areas in the Global South to the Internet in a cost-effective and sustainable way. As a researcher, you will primarily help us to optimize our WiBACK solutions and to expand them for new fields of application or new transmission technologies.

 

What you will do

  • You will contribute to the further development of our radio-based WiBACK technology (feel free to have a look at it by visiting: http://wiback.org)
  • Develop ad-hoc 5G campus networks for first responders.
  • You will focus on our interfaces (UI) development, C++/Python programming as well as working with embedded/realtime systems
  • In the course of various projects, you will also work together with our research partners research partners from science and industry in a customer-oriented manner. You will also have the opportunity to occasionally present your research results at (inter)national trade fairs and conferences

 

What you bring to the table

You have successfully completed your scientific university studies (Master/PhD) with a focus on computer science/computer engineering, electrical engineering or a related field and bring a passion for application-oriented science.

 

In addition, sound knowledge in one or more of the following areas is an advantage: 

  • You have expertise in wireless networks (WLAN, IoT, LoRaWAN or 5G) as well as in system-related and/or scripts programming.
  • In addition to expertise in Linux administration (embeddet), you also possess programming skills in C++ and/or Python
  • First experiences in UI and hardware development (testing, integration) as well as the corresponding practical experience in the form of larger projects are an advantage
  • You have a very good command of English and are willing to take part in occasional (inter)national business trips and representations at conferences or committees
  • You are passionate about your field and are able to work independently on complex tasks.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. While we are interested in a long-term cooperation, employment is initially limited to 2 years.
