Researcher in Multilingual Foundation Models

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

At Fraunhofer IAIS, 360 employees research and develop individual solutions for the integration and analysis of data for our funding bodies and our customers from industry. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, multimedia content analytics, information integration and enterprise modeling and analysis are the focal points of our work. Fraunhofer IAIS is at the center of a strong research network: As one of four leading partners, Fraunhofer IAIS conducts cutting-edge AI research in the "Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence", which is permanently funded by the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the federal government's AI strategy. The research focus of the Lamarr Institute's innovation group "Foundation Models Research Lab (FMR-Lab)" includes FM-based (multimodal) agent systems/multi-agent systems. In particular, research will focus on improving the tool utilization capabilities, planning capabilities, reasoning capabilities of agent systems, and synthetic data generation for agent systems. The FMR-Lab is part of national and international projects for the development of large European foundation models. These include OpenGPT-X, TrustLLM and EuroLingua-GPT, in which large foundation models are trained from scratch on the basis of several million GPU hours and several thousand GPUs.

The distinctive feature of the work at the FMR-Lab is that research questions are derived and defined based on real-world application problems.

For the innovation group "Foundation Models Research Lab (FMR-Lab) we are looking for a
