At the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB, we combine biology and technology in our business units Health, Sustainable Chemistry, Environment and Climate Protection. We develop processes, technologies and products for patient-tailored healthcare, a sustainable bioeconomy and a climate-neutral and resource-efficient circular economy and successfully bring new solutions to industrial implementation. We conduct research at our sites in Stuttgart, Leuna and Straubing and in close cooperation with numerous universities and research institutes in Germany and abroad.

 

 

What you will do

At our site in Straubing, you will work on the development of thermocatalytic processes for the synthesis of platform chemicals and liquid energy carriers (synthetic fuels) from renewable raw materials. The processes follow Power-to-X approaches and are mostly based on the use of CO2 as carbon source. 

  • Against this background, you will design and support process development from laboratory to pilot scale. Your tasks will include the planning, implementation and evaluation of tests on continuously and batch-operated reactors as well as the scientific utilization and presentation of the results in specialist articles and at conferences. 

  • A further aspect of your work is the technical and planning support for the construction of experimental infrastructure for chemical process development, in particular reactor plants. In addition to your scientific and technical tasks, you will be responsible for supervising students and student theses.

 

What you bring to the table

  • A university degree with very good results in chemistry, chemical engineering or process engineering with a completed doctorate 
  • Huge interest in Power-to-X technologies

  • In-depth knowledge in the application of analytical techniques (GC-MS, LC, NMR, etc.)

  •  

    Enjoy working with complex systems and solving technical problems in everyday laboratory work

  • The ability to work independently on scientific questions and to develop new solutions

  • Confident command of written and spoken English

  • You like to take responsibility - for yourself and your actions.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
