Mater Thesis - Data Fusion for Traversability Analysis in Outdoor Environments for Mobile Robots
Advertisement for subjects such as: computer science, cybernetics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, software engineering or similar. In the Professional Service Robots - Outdoor research group we develop autonomous, mobile robots for a variety of outdoor applications, such as agriculture and forestry. The focus is on the development of an autonomous outdoor navigation solution as well as the hardware of the robots.
One of the chore features of autonomous navigation in outdoor environments is the traversability analysis based on sensor data (primarily 3D LiDAR and Camera). A big challenge is to fuse this information into a format that can be used by planning algorithms to find optimal paths that are collision free and traversable. In your master thesis you will contribute to the development of such a data fusion algorithm.
What you will do
Our mobile outdoor robot CURTmini increasingly has to operate in complex environments, such as coffee plantations in Brazil and vineyards with steep slopes along the Mosel river. For this, you are to become part of the team that develops and tests navigation solutions for outdoor mobile robots. Your work will be focused on the development and implementation of a data fusion algorithm for traversability analysis as well as testing the algorithm in simulation and on real robots.
What you bring to the table
