Internship: Chemical recycling and material analysis

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros. 

The “Advanced Carbon Conversion Technologies” department conducts research into innovative technologies for recycling waste for which no recycling technologies are yet available. In some cases, waste contains significant quantities of engineering plastics such as polyamide, critical metals such as indium or precious metals such as palladium. However, as their exact composition and therefore their recycling potential is usually unknown, these valuable materials are often not recovered.

 

What you will do

  • Researching and summarizing international literature
  • Preparing laboratory samples for analysis
  • Analysing and characterizing waste streams and recyclable materials
  • Experimentally investigating mechanical, chemical and thermal recycling processes
  • Summarizing and evaluating the results

 

What you bring to the table

must have:

  • Engineering studies such as process engineering, chemical engineering or similar
  • Solution-oriented, independent and self-reliant way of working
  • Good knowledge of English

 

nice to have:

  • Confident handling of MS Office
  • Practical experience in mechanical and plant engineering, e.g. through training, internship or practical study modules
  • Practical experience in the analysis laboratory

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
